With how smooth and quick these modern transmissions shift, I don't think it's going to be any issue even if it is shifting much more than the last version.
Now if it was the old C6 shifting up and down all the time, we'd be in trouble....
The fact that the 10 speed transmission for the F-150 / Expy and the 9 speed for the smaller vehicles is a joint Ford/GM venture is a great thing. Both companies build exceptional vehicles and there will be millions of the transmissions on the road to share parts, R&D costs, research data, etc. I think the truck will benefit immensely.
Does That shift dial drive you crazy ?
My brother just bought one and he says he hates it
He said he just can't get use to it:
Depending on the terrain the 10 speed is gonna do a lot of shifting IMO
The shift dial is different, but it just takes a short period of time to get used to it.
These multigear transmissions don't go thru all gears unless necessary. Most of the time, you don't even notice it. I think most folks will think its a big improvement .
What odds do you think there is for the 2017s to have the 10 speed transmission? I mentioned I would probably wait to a dealer after I'd received a price quote and he emailed me back saying his sales manager said the 17s would NOT have the transmission. My understanding is that Ford hasn't released any details yet and they're probably just trying to pressure me into a sale now. Though, I wouldn't be shocked if the Raptor solely has it this year and then it becomes standard for the 18 model year.
Do you all think the 10 speed transmission will be in the 17s or the 18s? I got a quote over the last week and when I mentioned holding off until the 17s for the 10 speed transmission, my salesman emailed me back saying his sales manager said the 17s wouldn't have the transmission. Since Ford hasn't announced anything yet, I'm assuming they're just saying that to pressure me into a purchase.
I don't trust dealers to know anything about future products. I trust them even less to be honest about it.
I'm not a very trusting person. I hope the 2017's have it, but I suppose it's possible they would wait until 2018 to try and make the raptor seem more exclusive. Although, I would think they'd love to get it out fleet-wide to help the CAFE numbers. But what do I know? Not much.
In addition to the 10 speed, a 9 speed is being jointly developed for the transverse engine vehicles. I've read and now can't find it that GM will get the 9 speed for it's front drivers in 2017 while Ford gets the 10 speed for the rear drive and 4x4 vehicles and in 2018, GM will get the 10 speed and Ford the 9 speed for it's front drivers.
