I just bought a 32 foot Nomad travel trailor, dry it's 7600lb. I bought a reciever that had a 5500lb rating and a ball with a 6000lb rating. How does this work? Does each item need to be able to handle 7600lb. Or is it a combination thing? I am about to go on a trip. My truck is not an issue, (99 F350 PSD SRW). I have always used a fith wheel/or a goose neck. I am not familiar with tow behind hitch and recievers. Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks.
I think you'll need to buy a weight distribution hitch with that much weight. Most H/D weight dist. hitches are rated at 1000 - 1200 lbs. of tongue weight and 10000 - 12000 total weight. The ball size is also 2 5/16”.
Does your receiver have a dual rating (One without a weight distribution and one with)?
Sounds like your receiver is fine. Check this link out: WWW.drawtite-hitches.com
Look at the weight distribution hitches; you should be able to find some answers. Look under Heavy-Duty Towing
BTW 5000lbs with a max of 500lbs of tongue weight is too little for your trailer.
