Tail light wiring question

Hey guys my question is really two parts , I'm replacing my tail lights (flareside) and my front park lights.

1. The new grote tail lights have Cheby connections green- single wire and brown and yellow on the dual connector

My wires on the old lights are black with red on the single and green with red, and black on the dual connectors

2. On the front I bought the new clear park lights with white sockets from lmc. Both othe sockets from lmc have red ,black, and white wires.

On my truck one side is brown ,black , and white with red and the other side is brown, black , and green with red.

I'm not sure where to start, my batteries are not in the truck right now so I may just be stuck with no way to check. But I figured I would check and see if any of you have been through this lately and may know which wires go to which.

Thanks guys!

The EVTM sucks for some things and this is one of them... he needs this, too (instead, I imagine):

Good catch, Chris. Thanks. I forgot the stop and turn aren't in "exterior lights". (And there I was thinking the EVTM is logical. )

Shot wire for test leads and a batt.
Either the batt from the truck or your DD or may be a 9v batt?

Ok guys so I'm still lost. I need some electronics for dummies schooling. I got a 9 volt and I tried on a regular battery. Every combo I hook up the test lights light up but nothing I've tried makes the bulb burn. What am I doing wrong?

The black lead should be ground, connect this to the - on the battery.

The red & white each represent a separate filament inside the bulb, connect each to the battery + (one at a time) and each respective filament in the bulb should light up.

You may find the test light is taking the power, just use straight wire from the battery to the leads
Cheers Steve

Chris and Blackduck have given good advice - connect the light In question directly to a 12v battery. Here's the reason: The lights in question take ~10 times more power to light than your test light. So when you connect your test light between them and the battery the little bit of current that occurs is enough to light the test light but not the tail/stop/turn light.

Do you have the bulbs installed in the sockets in the correct orientation? They are designed to be installed only one way (look at the stubs protruding from the base of the bulbs; one is at the very base, the other is midway-up-ish) and people sometimes force them into the sockets in the wrong orientation.

Might also connect the battery directly to the light bulbs themselves just to make sure the bulbs in fact work.

(BTW please stop using Text-ese such as "im" and "ill" and no capitalization and whatnot, that kind of writing can get you ignored.)

Thanks to all you guys for all the great information. It turns out you all were correct about the test lights. I tried a piece of regular wire and everything worked like it should. So the front lights are done! Now I just have to figure those back lights out. I'm afraid it won't be quite as easy because I think I used to have a problem back there anyways.

Can anyone tell me are these flareside lights supposed to ground to the body? I think years ago we had to run a body to frame ground to make the tail lights work . I don't remember seeing any factory ground like that.

Thanks again guys! And I'll try to make sure I use proper grammar too!

Page 8 here (Grounds - Gary's Garagemahal) shows the ground for the rear lights. As shown it is G903, and if you scroll down to Page 11 you'll see that it is at the "LH side of rear crossmember."

Ok thanks! This is slowly starting to make sense. I checked the new lights out last night with the battery and have a better idea of what I'm looking at.one thing I haven't seen is the back up lights, though I think they are the single wire coming out of the light.
