Ok.. Ready to buy the air intake system for the 2001 f350 7.3 and want to hear from you guys on what you think is the best one and where to order it from. The Beast is sitting on 37x13.50 and used to tow from Ca to Arizona a 24' enclosed trailer with the HD's inside.. I am saving for the turbo rebuild...so let me hear it guys...
Bar none the cheapest(prize wise) of them all 6637 mod. Loud turbo whistle
Factory AIS (oem upgrade) Quietest
S&B AIS (factory location but higher flow rate than the top 2) according with some members ive never run theae syste Noise? No experience.
About to do fender mod, I've been sucking the filter minder most of the way closed.
AIS and S&B were LARGE price difference when I bought my AIS last year. Now they are getting closer. If they were close, I'd consider the better flowing S&B, but still pleased with AIS and the "nearly stock" look.

I too am a AIS fan, ran the 1st filter for 4 1/2 years & was still not sucking the filter minder all the way. Mostly just went ahead & changed the element because I was moving 2100 miles & was going to have to make the trip 2X, once w/3 horses on the trailer & the second with all my tools & barn stuff (ended up over 15k on the trailer).
I did the fender mod part of the deal when I installed mine & I believe I paid $25 for the foam snorkel, if I did it again I would just cut a beer can coozie & saved the $25.

Ex, if you look just behind the grill where the air tube comes out there may be a rubber piece that covers up the intake, if you remove that you should have no issues, I have gone full romp with Stinky Jr aqnd the filter minder is still where it should be, and I am using the more sensitive of the filter minders for the AIS...
Just food for thoughts, as for the original question the 6637, no experience there, OEM and AIS (OEM upfit) I have ran, OEM (rectangle) sucked badly (in every form of the word) and the AIS does the same, but its so much less restrictive and does not let dust in, I change filters every 20,000 miles (every 4 oil changes) which I am about due again UUUG...but its worth it with out a question!
OEM:
OEM AIS:
Can you tell which was OEM and which was the "After Market"?
Yeah, I made sure the flap was out of the way and the air cavity was open. There is a thread on it somewhere Good thought though, had to chase that down earlier
I am running GH tunes and WW1. I don't have the fender sleeve in yet. Getting ready to do oil cooler orings this week. Really bad U-joint last week.
I've been in trucks with the 6637 - it drove me crazy. I had the Ford AIS (my favorite by far), and I acquired a stock filter minder, because the one that comes with the AIS is weaker. I upgraded my injectors and that surpassed the capacity of the Ford AIS - so I installed the S&B. While the S&B is not as quiet as the Ford AIS, it's far quieter than the 6637.
If you never do an injector upgrade, my vote will always be the Ford AIS. Quiet, breathes better than stock, and 20K between filter changes.
If you do that zoodad mod or whatever it's called you might consider a closed off one instead of an open element. I like the sound of the open element filters but I also have a banks monster muffler so it's still not loud enough to **** my neighbors off.
That filter didn't stay that nice yellow color for long, it's so faded now I need a sleeve. Looking back I would have rather done the 6637 or an S&B or the AIS, that AFE was waaaaay to expensive and the hp gain the intake manufactures hype about is nonsense.
6637 for me, I don't find it too loud TBH. Plus there is also the noise cancelling **** on my stereo if I ever do find it too loud. The 6637 seems to flow fine and i have had no issues with it to date, about a year running it now. Plus it is a nice cheap option if funds a re a little tight for you!
I had the 6637 for years, it didn't bother me at all. When I went with the bigger injectors (and now the 38R) I upped it to the S&B due to better flow numbers, and I like it. They have changed the design a little bit, but the one thing I don't like is the almost total dis-assembly whenever I need to do anything with the intake tubes on the drivers side. For that, the 6637 was the easiest to deal with.
I went from stock to Airaid to the AIS. OP, my truck is set up similar to yours and I also pull a 20 foot car hauler around. If you do go with the AIS, I would recommend the fender sleeve. While you are paying almost 30 bucks (if I recall correctly, costs more to ship it than the cost of the foam) for a piece of hard foam, it makes all the difference if you also run a tuner. Before the fender sleeve I would always reset the filter minder every time I opened the hood. Now the filter minder does not move.
