Nerf Bars Vs Running Board

Ok...So I have purchased new Ford take off Front doors to replace my hidden rot. (Behind the Cladding)

I took a better look and see that the rockers need help. So while the body shop has the running boards off...I'm thinking Nerf Bars??? (If I had changed them way back in 02 when I bought the X I probably wouldn't have the rot there where the snow likes to get trapped.)

I know this is subjective...but hit me with it....

Let me know what has stood up to the test of time too please. Since I am plowing with the beast.

Thanks all!!

Keith

Nerf bars are good. I think the stock bars from the later model trucks are really good looking. Usually they are fairly cheap.

I just installed the Amp Research electric boards on my Ex. They are a lot of $$$ but would solve your issue.

Man....I wish I could afford those babies!! My dad would be jealous...he had an Expedition EL with the power boards....After it got totaled in a 7 Car pile up on the Highway, he went to a regular length..with fixed running boards. But those are sweet!!

I like the new body style step bars from the 2011-2016 super duty myself.

Do not go with Nerf bar!! I had them on my old X and was the cause for a couple of ankle twist. Go with the newer style step bars.

Good to know. I'm leaning towards the newer style. Are you talking about the ones that are flat the whole length with treads the length?

Those bars look the same as the factory ones that came on my 05 Eddie Bauer.

They are OEM boards from an 08 F-350. They came on the truck when I got it but I bought a set off of CL back when I had my first X. I'll be removing them in the next few weeks yes.

I can't comment on the rust issues / benefits of using one over the other.

I have an 04 Eddie Bauer and an 05 limited.

The 05 steps feel more stable, offer a better squared up step undercut he foot. And look better, but they are not lighted.

My pics are not loading for some reason.....

The older style are tray like, my 05 ones are similar to Apocs.

My 05 Ex had Smittybilt nerf bars on it when i bought it. Small step area, didn't like them. I bought running boards from a 2009 Super Duty, bolted right up looks good and better support with 3 mounting points per side versus 2 with the nerf bars.
