I have liked this model truck since my dad came home with a new one when I was 4. He quit driving it before I was 16 and I tried to get it going but didn't have the ability or money. From a practical standpoint my parents agreed to keep it on their property until I could restore it but didn't want to spend the money necessary to get it driveable. I drove a 1996 Saturn SL2, and used it to hunt and fish with (yes it had deer in the trunk at times!) my senior year in high school and through college.
After I graduated my dad and I planned to use my money and both or our time to fix it up. He passed in 2007 before that could happen. Attached is a date stamped email that contains a link I sent myself in January 2007 before daddy passed away that I was using as a go by for what I wanted it to look like. I let it go with the sale of the property after daddy's passing because I did not want to use my inheritance on its restoration nor did I want to store it for years. My dad worked hard for years at a blue collar job so I could have an easier and more prosperous life. That was my first priority was making his dream come true.
Not intentionally looking, I thought I found what I was looking for a month ago on a hunting website. The seller and I agreed to a price then he revised his ask up based upon the volume of interest and my evaluation of his truck did not warrant the new ask. I was upset. My girlfriend, who actually saw the old gray truck and has had to listen to me talk about it for 8 years found the new truck and told me to buy it :-). It was in much better condition and around the same price as the other truck that I was upset over losing. She is fond of saying 'everything happens for a reason'. Ironically it is the same truck that SCFlareside found for sale last fall in Atlanta. A Texas guy bought it and had to sell it to raise funds for a home remodel.
Special thanks to SCFlareside for his knowledge and advice.
Very sharp ! And BTW, keep that GF....She knows whats up ! And keep that green stuff in the newer truck...lol
Welcome to FTE and we look forward to Your contributions to the family ! What are those things parked in the neighbor's driveway??
What a great story! Truck looks happy in your driveway, glad to see that you got it! We probably have about the same amount of money invested and yours is already looking better than mine I must say.
Enjoy the truck, definitely keep that GF and welcome to the forum. It's a great online community, with very helpful folks. Our trucks are in that space where they are classics and starting to be appreciated again, and guys on this forum like Number Dummy, Ctubutis, Gary Lewis and others are a wealth of info, Some of what they post is info that would have been lost in time if it weren't documented here.
Nice looking truck.
What does it have for a power plant & drive train other than the 4x4? Dave ----
Fuel Injected 302-Speed Density I am contemplating a mass air conversion. AOD Transmission.

The black 2015 is definitely for when things get serious. Ford makes some awesome trucks and the 2015 3.5 Ecoboost is amazing. I love the blue truck but can't imagine towing our 25 foot saltwater boat with it.

Wow. I will definitely be picking your brain then! I know now that they are flaresides but we grew up calling it stepside, everybody did.
She;s a beauty, good ones are hard to find. I have an 86 flareside that came from Arizona. I don't take it out in bad weather. the only problem with Arizona trucks is the sun bakes the dash and window seals also the amber marker lights and such get bleached out, luckily new parts are available to cure these problems. Good luck with the truck.
Are there current photos? where do you live and have all that green????
That SEM interior paint works great! could never tell this was a combo of red and blue interior plastic.
Good job on your truck!
I live in southeast Texas about 40 miles north of Houston. Yes it is that green down here. Those pictures were taken last weekend.
What color SEM paint for the red that came in 1986? it works on the cloth in the door panel and everywhere? Eventually the truck will be gray exterior and red interior.
