So it's raining here today and I decided to go on a beer run. There is a JY right across the street from the Sunoco that I frequent. What is sitting in front of the building? A two-tone red '81 4x4 longbed in Ranger trim.
My palms got all sweaty.
I went in and asked the owner if I could poke around it and he said sure.
Opened the hood and there lies a complete, unmolested, running 302. I think I tinkled a little... I took pics but can't get them to load on My puter but I'll mess with it and try to post them later.
So for starters, I got the air cleaner, breather and all of the hoses....$15.00. A spare steel wheel with a decent tire on it.....$15.00. Grille....$15.00.
Headlamp trim, both left and right...$15.00. He is going to take the front bumper and tailgate off for Me which I paid Him for, You guessed it....
$15.00 each.
I was prepared to let Him 15 buck Me to death !
Sweet! My local yard always has 5-6 of these trucks at a time. I scored a nice red sun visor with the lighted mirror a few weeks back.
The red visors in this one are good, as well as the drivers door panel but, the passenger door panel is trashed (weird). It is a factory A/C truck but the dash trim is not worth retrieving due to the PO screwing a Dixie air horn button on it (in keeping with the hand painted Rebel flag hood) and a aftermarket radio install.
Most of the body trim is still there. It's not supposed to rain tomorrow so I will be going back with tools in hand, and a lot of 15 dollar bills, lol.
The tailgate comes off with no tools needed. Open about half way, slide the cable ends off the sides, and lift the passenger side of the gate off the pivot.
They are the darker red.....as far as the bills go, if I told You, I'd have to well, You know the rest
Hmm, I could use both visors. '85 would be the same as '81, right? I'd be interested in the good door panel and the headliner, too, but I think they'd be to $$$$$'y to ship.
In My neck of the woods (rural), between the insane amounts of salt used in the winter and mostly gravel driveways, it is definitely the Rust Belt. When a decent running vehicle is found for parts, We act like kids in a candy store. Every couple of months, I reserve a Saturday to go to the Pick-A-Part to hoard parts. It never fails that family or friends call for something. For the most part, we're a Ford family.

You now have the gate in hand.
Yea but I had the Wife's Taurus....heaven forbid I should get it dirty

It is a Ranger but did not have a headliner...steel like mine. The visors and panel would be cheap to ship....hardly any weight.
You did good! If that tailgate is nice, that's worth more than what you paid for everything.
I was surprised at the condition of the gate. There are a few dings at the top like usual but nothing major that can't be fixed easily. My truck didn't have a gate when I bought it so that was a huge find in My world...lol.
