Front Crossmember Rust

I have a 1999 F150 2wd. I was changing the oil on the weekend, and noticed a small hole/crack in the front crossmember that the control arms bolt to. This being a integral part of the suspension, I need to fix it. Has anyone else done this? Its just the bottom part of the crossmember, it rusted from the inside out. The rest of the truck and frame is in great shape, so I am not junking it. Just looking for some advice.

you could find a local welder to cut out a section couple inches wide and several inches long and lay a strap in the cutout and wirefeed weld to the original frame to get the strength back...... If its small and local, I would not look at replacing the entire member .... that's a lot more work.

Thank you, yeah it seems that only the bottom half of it is bad. There's a circular hole in the bottom of the member, and I think just stuff laying in there over the years really did a number on it from the inside out. Top half of it seems to still be thick. Shame too, the rest of the frame and mounts are excellent.
