hey fellas....new hear and just bought a 2000 F250 with 56k actual miles on it. One thing I guess I overlooked was that only one of the four doors locks will work with the main lock/unlock and the remote(the back driver side door)...the rest are just making noise and barely budging when pressing the lock/unlock in the truck and on the remote.
Anyone had this issue? is it just that my three door locks need to be replaced or does anyone know of a greater issue?
Sounds to me like they are trying to operate, in which case, simply cleaning and lubricating the solenoid shaft on each one will likely cure your ills.
Thanks for the input...actually found a thread on here through an internet search and it's the actuators that are faulty. found replacements for pretty cheap on amazon
Pretty common. My 2001 is doing the same thing. There is a thread in the tech folder at the top of the page that shows how to fix the actuators free with a small piece of tin foil. I'm going to give it a try when I have the time.
Yes I saw that one, watched the video on youtube...it just seamed like a lot of work to put in for a part I can get for $24 lol or maybe I'm just lazy...

A peice on amazon...for that amount it just seamed a better choice since I bet it would take me all day just to fix the units (if I did it correctly) and possibly longer to then a day to complete. Don't have the time for that at the moment
I did the tin foil mod on my dad's 2000 crew cab about five maybe six years ago now and they still work like brand new. Ford and that stupid register chip HAH
Did the tin foil mod in my 08 as well...works great..locks work like brand new. It's not that much extra work really...10 extra mins per door....most of work is removing and re-installing the actuators in the doors themselves. Then again the actuators in my 08 were held together with 3 torx screws....I think the video shows drilling out rivets...not sure what year they switched to the torx screws.
thanks fellas, I think I'll give one of them a try and see if I'm able to get the old ones working before replacing them. Luckily I ordered them through amazon so I should be able to return them if I can fix it myself. At the very least it will be nice to have a "plan B" ready to go if i mess the old ones up...the bigger issue is, even though I live in the suburbs, i don't like the idea of my truck sitting out front overnight unlocked If I am unable to complete it in one day. I'll update the thread once I take a crack at doing it thanks
My back passenger door wouldn't even twitch to unlock or lock. 3 other actuators were sluggish and sticky. So poped them all open, did the tinfoil hack, and they all work great again!
So I pulled the doors open and low and behold, I was sent the wrong parts :/ so I ended up doing the tinfoil fix and all door locks work! It's been a while since I've had vehicle not under warranty...now to replace the spark plugs and cross my fingers they don't turn into projectiles(V10)
Thanks for the help fellas...it's officially scotch-30
Well today was the day. I went for it.
Works like a champ. Free!
Second door took less than half the time as the first.
Thank you FTE, and the person who originally posted this fix.
