I just purchased a 2000 Ford Excursion Limited 4x4 with only 48K on it! Its a great truck. I just have a question for you guys:
When I press the lock button on the door locks, they all go down just a little, but not enough to lock the doors. If I press it about 5 or more time I can get the passanger door to lcok. When I press the unlock, and the doors are locked, it takes about 5 or more time to just open the passangers lock. All the other locks move a little but not enough. Does anybody have any tips on this?
They seem to have bumped up a little in price. If you do a search for lock acutators, you will probably find the detailed instructions and pictures posted by cuinak. Very helpful and it made the job very easy. After the first one, the rest are easy. Just read a few of the threads. You will need different ones for the driver's side doors and the passenger side doors plus an extra one (right or left I can't remember) for the liftgate. Otherwise, very simple after the first one.
I have two driver's side actuators I will sell you. They are Genuine Ford Parts and brand new. I accidently ordered the wrong side and have these left over. PM me and we can talk about them.

read your message and have your answer, replace all of the door lock actuators in the doors, they go bad all the time and the new ones are updated. from fordtech .....later

It probably is the actuators, but it was hard for me to beleive that ALL the actuators need to be replaced. I thought it might be an open, or high resistance or something of that nature
this actuator problem is sooo common on the older 97-2003 F150 and Expedition, 99 up Superduty and Excursion that it's the first thing I check before I install a remote start system, keyless, security into a customer's vehicle. I first hit lock and unlock a few times to point out that thier locks have an issue. I'd say 5 out of 10 are showing symptoms. It never fails....If I forget to check that before I start on thier truck then I have to explain to the customer that it is not my system that I installed that is causing it.
You will be very pleased with the new actuators. They have a slightly different look to them but, compared to the weak, failing actuators, the new ones just hammer the locks open and closed. Pow. Putting the first one in will be a learning experience, but once you see how the whole system fits together, it makes sense and is very simple. The rest are cake. I did the front doors first, which were just a bit more difficult. But overall. very simple.
They seem to fail all around a general time frame, but not all at once. First, it was the passenger front in my truck. I thought it was just an isolated problem until the left rear started doing the same thing. Once I figured out what they were called, I did the search and found it was very common and I was not alone with my dilemma. And there were even pictures with detailed instructions. Did you find that thread?
when you replace the actuators, use a large blade screw driver between the actuator and the body of the latch assy. and twist to dislodge tha actuator , the actuator clip will most likely break, then line up the new one, making sure the lever nipple is lined up and snap into place, after the first one, you'll be a pro,,,good luck
Look for the thread titled "Power door lock replacement procedure enhanced" or something like that. Let me know if that worked. Great pics and directions.
