I am going to take out my old worn motor/transmission and put a rebuilt one in.
Question: How do I remove the front end
1.) bolt lower fender near door
2.) bolt upper fender with door open
3.) front frame/to core support bolts
4.) Hood bolts
5.) loosen wires and hoses
6.) use engine lift and remove front clip
Did you remove both the engine and trans together? If so how so. I can see it possibly happening if I remove the radiator and all the belts and pumps. Only issue then is getting the transmission over the core support alone
I also can't see the need to remove the front clip just to get the drivetrain out... yes, first remove the hood, all accessories, the fan, water pump & radiator, possibly the exhaust manifolds... a load leveler is necessary, and possibly removing the front wheels and setting the truck on jack stands as low as possible will help.
Front & back of each head or the front & rear exh bolt holes with the manifolds removed.
Just make sure the bolts go in all the way in the holes as you want as much of the threads in the holes.
To pull the nose, hood radiator & hoses, all wiring to lights and electrical units on fenders, any other hoses, any AC lines to condenser.
lower & upper fender bolts, IIRC there is also a bolt on the inner fender well at the back, 2 radiator support bolts.
I am sure you will need to pull the bumper off and to get to the hood release cable remove the grille.
I also used the hoist to remove the nose as I was doing it by myself too. I used 2 ratchet straps 1 at front & other at the back so I could take up on them as needed.
I only removed the motor as I dropped the trany out the bottom after.
Before I started any of this work, on the way home when I bought it, I power washed it. Never know it when I stared working on it.
It was the start of a cab off frame rebuild started back last Dec..
