Name that noise
I have a 2001 ford escape xlt v6 that I just bought not to long ago. It has new tires on it. It has a noise that sounds very similar to road noise from tires as if they were big mudding tires but it never changes tones or sounds when road surfaces change. It gets fadter as I go faster and obviously stops when Im not moving. Could it be wheel bearings? Anything else to look out for?

The easy question...
When turning at speed, does the sound change? Example:
Turning right going around an entrance or exit ramp, does it get louder or quieter? Same for left turns.
Diagnosis would be wheel bearings.

The center support bearing in the drive shaft was the culprit in my 05. The dealer wanted to sell me a complete drive shaft, as did the bone yards but Doorman had a good deal with a lifetime warranty.

Funny you mention that Dan. I actually just found out thats what it is and tireman tried telling me you have to replace the whole driveshaft assembly. I jst had tireman diagnose the problem and Im already set up for a day with my mechanic who has a doorman bearing waiting for me! Good call Dan!
