another dumb question whats the gasket between the pump and the block called? the guys at pep boys and autozone told me that there was no such gasket and that I should just use silicone

If you're referring to the oil pump, it's the oil pump gasket.
It's a good thing those fellas ain't mechanics. Don't use just silicone. When you bolt the pump on, the silicone can squeeze out and block the oil system.
That gasket comes in Engine overhaul sets and with oil pumps. They can get them if they try.
