Can anyone tell me what these two things are? It's been a while since I worked on the older vehicles. I'm still waiting on my Haynes manual to come in the mail.
I'm assuming it's some sort of voltage regulator.
I'd also like to know what I have to do to eliminate the ICM.
The blue device on passenger side to the right of the starter solenoid is aftermarket and appears it is being used as a buss bar or power distribution device. The box the right of it is the voltage regulator, it has a condenser too.
The box on the drivers side is the duraspark 2 engine ignition brain box.
Engine won't run without the ICM. You can remove it if you install something like a DUI or HEI distributor. You can get rid of the voltage regulator by installing a 3g alternator and wiring, do a search lots of info and even kits to do it out there. You can probably get rid of the blue buss bar device by tracing wires and if they are 12 volts constant just move them to hot side of starter solenoid.
