hey all so i am rebuilding the 44 in the front of my highboy and it took a few weeks while i tracked down parts and this is where the moron pat comes in i took the thing apart before i had all the parts now i'm putting it back together and there are these two tab/bracket things i have no recollection on where they go they have something to do with the brakes i'm pretty sure but other than that it's roughly 4 inches long about a half inch or so wide and about 1/8 thick its curved with the ends bent 90 degrees. i know thats not much to go on but anyone have any ideas?
yep, they hold the brake calipers in. the curved spring goes over the other metal piece. you tap them into the bottom of the caliper then a single bolt threads in and holds it in place.
so now my other question is the bolt that goes in there what is that supposed to look like when i disassembled mine it had two different bolts one side had a big head 9/16 and the other had a small head 3/8 good bad indifferent?
What they said, also have the "caliper support spring) installed with the arch up. And the "key retaining screw" should be the same size like 7/16 or 1/2...as long as the head is big enough to hold the "caliper support key" bar in place.
I would try very hard to locate a bolt with a taper under the head. But if you can't as long as the bolt body or head engages in the caliper support key notch, you should be ok.
If I remember right the bolt is a fairly small one...but remember when it comes to brakes get the correct hdwr if at all possible.
Have you called your local Ford dealership and asked?
