Post the exact fault code. Do NOT rely on the drone at AutoZone for a diagnosis.
The codes Auto Zone found are P1285 and P1299. It's a free service and a place to start. I've lost confidence in the local Ford shop for various reasons.

We are driving a 2002 E450 Minnie Winnie with 44,000 miles. Can you indicate what the following codes refer to specifically and perhaps recommend what to do? We had the light come on once before about 3 months ago and the Ford dealer fixed a vacuum leak. Now it has come on again. I confess we drove 1800 miles with it on as we were out RVing and wanted to deal with our local dealer. The codes are:
P0171 (system lean bank 1) and P0174 (system lean bank 2).
Towing our Honda CRV, we get between 6 and 8 MPG depending on winds and grades.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Check your PCV valve boot and make sure its not rotted or collapsing. Also check you IAC ( right behing the throttle body) they tend to get gummed up and cause lean codes.

i took mine a paid for evaluation and none agreed to why it was on one said it was the computer in 5he truck going bad one said loose injector harness wires another couldnt even read any codes all it got was error message.
so i changed my fuel filter,my air filter changed the oil light still 2as on.
i tink our outrage should be directed at FORDthey charge 70,000 for a new vehicle with an idiot light in it,if you want it read by them to add to their prgits as if 70,000 wasnt enough they wanted 150.00 to tell me what the light meant
i say highway robbery!
if you pay 70,000 for a vehicle made by them the least they should off free telling us what the idiot light means or use todays technoliogy to make it a little more specific so an owner knows what the truck needs to be serviced for soon
dont you think we paid for that right?
i suggest they are made to change by class action lawsuit to have the right to know what the idiot light means so we arent throwing more money ito an already high price paid.
this sjould also inclue future owners of their product too
my opinion and im a frustrated fix or repair daliey and a senior on a fixed budget.
i mad beyod belief as to why i cant find a straight answer that agrees what the stupid light indicated and im out more than half my income trying to find out.lets revolt make them make it easier to find out!
I have a few suggestions for you, you might or might not like them.
1) Slow down, don't write your problem in one long never ending misspelled sentence.
2) Changing filters will not remove trouble codes.
3) Found on road daily is what dimwitted Chevy only drivers say.
4) Yes, I agree with you that a service advisor should plug in and check your codes when you arrive at the Ford dealer service area. BUT, one code may point you in the right direction but it could mean more than one thing and further diagnosis is needed.
5) I'm a senior on a fixed budget too, and if you can afford a $70,000 vehicle, you are doing far better than most folks, so go spend $100 and get a decent code reader so you can have first hand information of your problems.
