Comp cam vs. Crane
I’m going to post to several threads that it seems apply to.
Crane said the 801 would work well in a 9.5:1 compression Iron head 390.
Comp on the other hand, recommended against the XE 274 on the basis that they thought it would build too high of cylinder pressure and have “pinging” problems. Said that the higher duration lower lift 280H would be a better choice.
The Crane and Comp appear quite similar on paper.
(and both are quite a bit hotter than the two discussed in this thread.)
I’m going to actually call him on Monday and discuss it further, but I thought it was an interesting turn of events.
The Dyno program I have allows you to enter timing events at "Seat to Seat" or a ".050" sometimes the same cam shows significantly different numbers between the two. (HP wise)
You can also enter head flow data if you have it, or chose from several choices such as “stock low pwerformance” “low performance with pocket port” and “low performance with big valves.”
I understand the new version has a "cam disc" that includes many cams (3500?) but the new version is a pretty good chunk of change. I may see check out the upgrade deals though.
Desk Top Dyno has the two dual pattern cams within five horsepower at seat-to-seat timing.
