Doesn't the spacer go between the wheels? Not directly on the hub, it's meant to space between the tires so they don't rub together. If you add in the thickness of the inner steel wheel won't the studs fit?
Edit: Nevermind, I can read and saw the post after the pics. I see the 1/4" gap now.
Punch out the studs and install the shorter SRW ones? You can order them separately from the hub bearings.
Good idea on punching out studs but I wonder how easy that would be and I suppose cost of shorter studs would be cheaper than the correct spacer?
Here's a idea.... Trim off the excess stud. Problem solved. Some time spent with a angle grinder and a cut off wheel and your done.
This happens all the time on Railroad pickups that run the tracks. They use some goofy spacer/adapters and need the studs trimmed off.
I agree with you on that as well, talking to my brother yesterday I asked him would it hurt. He replied with don't do it, he wasn't exactly sure why they leave that tapered end on the end with no threads but it has a purpose. To me and most everyone who reads this will probably say it doesn't.
So I'm just confused as long as I don't damage the threads I don't see why it would be issue.
Ford went to HC style wheels in '97 because they(Ford) believe that HC hubs are the very best way to center the wheels. Period. Do yourself a favor and find yourself a small machine shop explain what you want to do and ask if they can help. Nine times out if ten you will find that they will make just about anything that you want them to for not a lot of money. I have a shop that I work with all of the time, The man has made me a adapter to mount a half speed reducer to the front of my crank shaft to run a tach, two wheel spacers, installed my four innie wheel centers into four new eight inch wide hoops, fabbed up a turn signal lever, and many more items that I have asked for and I don;t think that I have spent any more than $225.00 with him. Don't get me wrong I didn't know him from Adam when I walked in his door for the first time. You can waste a lot of time, money and hair talking to people on the phone, ordering things online/returning said items. How long and how many times can you afford to have your truck apart trying things that don't work. Come on your time if nothing else is worth something!

Koolkat,
Thanks for the advice my truck doesn't cost me money sitting lol so if it does oh well but the fact of the matter is I wanted the job done asap so I did. As foe my time is precious your right damn right it is . Ask my four kids especially my young daughters they can't wait for 1 min of my time each day. My oldest only being 6 asked me to take her to the gym last night to work out. Bummer it was though they didn't allow her in the weight lifting room but the fact that she was with her dad is priceless and I couldn't ever replace that time with her. So yes my time is worth more than a $ can count based on my kids time. As for anything besides that I could care less if truck sat but when I do something I'm always eager to finish no matter what it takes.
Correction oldest daughter is 6. My son is oldest child at 10!
..... yes my time is worth more than a $ can count based on my kids time.
this! basically says it all, I agree 1000%: just ask my work when they try to force me to work on the weekends that I have my daughter..especially after having 2 surgeries within a month of each other on her left knee

I'm right there with your brother I live for my kids and nothing else
i know you got everything installed and done, but i just took this pic today, i texted you but i figured i'd post it for people that may read this thread in the future. after all the discussion about spacers we had, i definitely would feel more comfortable with hub centric spacers rather than the ones i have now. you can see the small gap in between the hub and my wheel, so the pressure on the outer wheels are being put on the studs, and aftermarket studs at that. so far i haven't had any issues, but i have contacted the guy that made these for me (semi local small custom shop) telling him i want HC spacers. i did actually request HC from the beginning, i still have my text messages to him as proof, but i think he will make things right. either way i will be switching mine to hub centric for peace of mind.
these are currently 2" spacers, i think i may go with 3" spacers when i get the new ones. Irish's dually is an 05, so his stock wheels i think are 1/2" maybe 1" wider than my stock wheels on my 04, so his slightlystock wider wheels and (i think) 305/70/17's with 2" spacers looks (waiting for measurements from him via text message) the same if not sticking out a tad MORE than my 315/75/16s with 2" spacers. once i see how much his sticks out compared to mine (shown in the 2nd pic below) will determine if i go with 2 or 3" spacers. us Florida boys like our super wide wheels/stance on our trucks haha. if you don't believe me, just google a few pics from Florida Forgiato Fest in miami! lmao!!!

I can measure my setup like yours to give you the exact idea. However my stock 17" rims are 6.5" wide and my tires I'm running now are 35x12.5x17. Not the 305's you mentioned about just for clarity.
weird, a few people have been having issues with not getting my texts/me not getting theirs. i will re-send what i sent today. i try to wait til at least noonish my time so i don't message you too early haha.
and yea if you can measure the front like that, that's essentially what the texts were about.
for some reason i thought you had 305s, we've talked about so many different spacers and tires lately i got confused haha. so yea, your tires are a little wider (mine technically are 34.6 x 12.4 x 16) and i believe my wheels are 6", so between that little bit of extra width, i think your rear setup may stick out an inch more than mine when measured that way. maybe not though, who knows lol
Do you guys actually use these trucks for pulling/hauling or just drive around?
Mostly driving to work, I pull my enclosed trailer from time to time to take wheelers out. Upgrading to 5th wheel soon. No issues with my truck hauling if by chance I were to load it down beyond 10k maybe but I'm also not lifted 6" or higher and these tires are rated for it the load that it is maybe not rim size so I won't be over doing it any time soon. But she is far from a pavement princess if that's what you want to know.
