OLD OLD OLD CL posts

If you are seriously shopping for a new EX this community can help. First off fill in your location (Houston TX) on your profile page so the location shows on each of your posts, you may find that you have some nearby members who like to spin wrenches (I think you do) and if you are really lucky those same guys might like cheap beer!

Next tell us exactly what you are looking for in a new EX, gas/diesel, RWD/4X4, stock/modified, mint/clean/average/rough/fixer......and a rough budget target that you are shooting for. Also telling us how you plan to use the EX (off roading/tow rig/highway trips/daily driver) will bring some suggestions as to what to look for or avoid. The more we know, the more we can you find the perfect EX for you.
If you are tempted to post your own CL ad, please don't. If you post a CL ad and you see later it's missing, it was a discretionary call. Don't question why in an open thread because that too is against FTE Guidelines. You can PM one of the Excursion Mods and ask though.
This thread is rife with many pitfalls and problems that can get users in a lot of trouble, and I'm not convinced it will work smoothly, so let's all try to make it work together.
If you need to re-familiarize yourself with FTE Guidelines, they can be found here: Site Guidelines - Ford-Trucks.com
Also, a link is always listed at the bottom of every FTE page, in the blue colored tool bar.
Thanks for your cooperation.

Much like the "FREE PARTS" thread, this thread will only show a limited number of posts. Probably one month or so since CL ads go away fast.
On the first of every month (or thereabouts) the oldest posts will be deleted to keep the size of the thread manageable.

We are looking for an Excursion 4x4 for family camping. We tow once or twice a year (>8,500lbs, mostly flat)- but after baby number 3 that is quite infrequent.
The wife would LOVE a diesel, however I see nothing in my price range except a 312k 7.3L I am driving tomorrow.
So realistically I am looking at a V10 three valve that I can pull, balance, and fit with forged rods, hypereutectic pistons, and billet timing gear.
I am not opposed to the 2V either.
Because I plan to yank the motor ASAP, I would LOVE to find a V10 Ex. 4x4 that just threw a rod... which we see every few days on CL of varying quality.
Of course the engine build is about $4,500 of the budget- so I would willingly spend more for a low mile V10 or, if we can score it, a +250k 7.3L.
And while I CAN do a 4x4 conversion, unless I get grandma's 2wd EB 7.3L I am NOT interested in going that route.

Again, we see a thown rod V10 about every 4 days down here for $1,500 to 2k. If the FTE forum helps me find a lower mile specimen- A W E S O M E.
We are moving down from a brand new Chevy crew cab, so I don't want this to be any more of a "project" than a 15 year old vehicle needs to be.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts

But fear not!
. The V-10 can be a great tow rig motor, our EX serves as our dedicated tow vehicle for our 11,000 lbs travel trailer that we drag all over the Eastern states, we are actually 600 miles from home with it right now!Keep in mind that the V-10 loves to rev and it is more efficient at those higher revs, so don't fear the gear! I run 4.88s on mine with 35.28" tires that reduces the effective ratio to a very sweet towing ratio of 4.39. 4.30s were a factory option on these rigs. So keep that in mind as you shop, the deeper geared ones are out there.
These motors also respond very well to good custom tunes (and the trans performance is even better), I use tunes from 5Star Tuning (a site sponsor), they do great work on these modular motors. You can also get a decent performance bump out of them with long tube headers and a better Y pipe as well a good performance muffler.
Good luck with you search!
