While reading through stickies,I came across how to modernize the dents wiper arms. It is in "Tbear's F150 thread" Today I went to the jy and bought the arms. What I found out when I started the swap was the only thing I had to do was chage the spring. It is VERY hard to reattach. Since to do the arm swap that is on Tbear's thread the spring needs to be removed from the new arm, why not just put the spring on the old arm. So that is what I did . The spring is very hard to reinstall. I grabbed the garden hose, ran water over the glass and no streaking, no missed spots. Just a good clean swipe. Thanks Tbear for the info.Did I mention the spring is hard to reinstall?
So........I take it that spring is a B**ch to install???? LOL
It's waaaaaay b**ch...
I used a section of coat hanger wire, looped and twisted it over the spring end and then wrapped the other end around a dowel and pulled... it's tough to get the correct angle too... quite a few expletives were used in reinstalling them.
I found it easier to install the spring by drilling out the rivet and letting the smaller end of the arm slide toward the spring then installing the new rivet. But I used the newer arms and shortened them. I like how the newer arm attaches to the wiper shafts better than the original. The newer arm has a retainer piece that when it slides out, it also holds the arm away from the window.
