Jack types

I'm driving down the road in my "new" old X after flipping my old "new" X and I realized another thing I forgot to get out of it--my bottle jack. However, the bottle jack I bought wouldn't reach high enough to lift the vehicle. What type/kind jacks that are portable work for these?

I use a bottle jack from Harbor Freight and some lumber as cribbing. Seems sturdier than the stock scissors jack.

12-20 ton should do the trick. A few 2x6x12 & 4x6x12s never hurt either

The one I carry for road emergencies is a cheap 6 ton bottle jack from WM. It has no problem lifting a wheel off the ground, but I do carry a couple wood blocks to put under it as necessary.

I like the factory screw jacks for tire changes. strong, light and dependable.

I welded a lug nut on the crank handle on mine and keep a Dewalt 18v Impact packed with my flat kit. makes roadside tire changes a snap.

Nice, While we are on the subject of jacks... I have a bottle jack that came with my truck but it was not mounted or secured. It was rattling around in the back passenger side hatch compartment. I would like to know where it is suppose to be secured and how if someone would be so kind.

passenger side cargo area there is a hatch secured by 2 *****,
inside the hatch there is a L bracket that the Jack sits under and is held firmly in place by the tension when you jack the Jack a bit.

I recently bought this bottle jack, and it worked well during my recent brake work and addition of new wheels and tires.

I'm sure all of you know this, but I'll mention it just in case... You do know the top of most bottle jacks unscrews to get you some extra height right?

Axle. In 1974 I bought my very 1st (and is was a very long time again) new car (Chevy heavy 1/2 PU) The engineers that designed the jack should have been shot. The only place to put the jack was under the axle which worked great UNLESS there was no air in the tire !!! THEN the jack was to tall SO when selecting a bottle jack this is something you should check before you are on the side of the road

I have a stock jack, not that it matters. Last time I got a flat tire I had a heart attack (age 50) just putting air in it! It was on my MB CL600, sold the pc of crap shortly after.

Ok now I gotcha. I didn't know whether it was safe to lift on the axle tube or differential. Of, course if you change springs, you have to put a jack under
the differential. I always am trying a way to get it on one of the frame members. Can't believe I didn't know about it screwing out--oh well
