Also, I found a red/yellow wire on Page 15 going to the headlamps. But that doesn't fit with your description of where the wire is, so tell us more, please.
That being the case use the 1981 EVTM and check out all of the wiring in that area. You are looking for something that says "R/Y D" for red with yellow dots. Or "R/Y H" for red with yellow hash marks if it might be that instead of dots.
