might be a silly one, but wanted to be sure. i have an 03 eddie with the lower cladding and painted small factory flares. the factory flares come off before the bushwackers go on correct? i dont see any other way but wanted to be sure before i tackle install.
1. The inner fasteners use the OE mounting holes of the cladding plus other mounting holes not accessible when the cladding is in place.
2. At the end of each flare it terminates under the body, beyond the cladding.
3. Take a very close look at the finishing tape applied on the flare that allows the flare to nestle snugly against the body. A 90° angle would be necessary at the junction of the original cladding and the body crease, the provided tape would not be able to "cope" with that angle.
4. Creating gaps between the flare(s) and the OE cladding would also allow (more) road grime to be trapped behind the flare (just like the cladding).
5. Anything "can" be done with time, money and patience but you would have to negate all the advantages of the flares with a mod of the mod.
I had oem's on my first 01 EX. It didn't have factory trim to deal with.
I haven't looked close enough at the hard lines of the oem trim on my '05.
I've put hundreds of sets of flares on, literally, on different trucks at work but never over the factory ones.
There are pretty sharp body lines and creases on some of the newer trucks that once you put the rubber trim on the flare some of that edge gets lost and there is a potential gap, although small.
I'm okay with losing the flares of I did it, the Limited Cladding with the chrome inlay is what I don't want to take off - looks wise anyways.
Hopefully if you do pull all the cladding off, it's not hiding a nice dent somewhere.
Exactly, I knew I had an imperfection on the edge of the left front. I removed the cladding and had PDR performed, only noticeable if you already knew it, with the larger flare it is completely hidden.
