Schaeffer 5w40 Full Synthetic (has been excellent, but my local rep is a pain to deal with and I may be switching to the Rotella due to how much simpler it is to obtain, even though the Rotella costs a little more)
Rotella T6 5w40 Full Synthetic (an excellent oil, readily available, but costs a little more than the Schaeffer and does not contain as good of a moly additive package)
Mobil 1 5w40 Full Synthetic (an excellent oil, readily available, costs too much for my taste)
I have run several and got good results from Rotella 15W 40 Schaeffers 5W-40, Mobil1 5W-40, and have been Rotella T-6 5W-40 here lately. It's good and as stated above, readily available.
Rotella, Delvac, Valvoline Premium Blue, Delo. I've run all those just using the standard 15w-40 stuff. Ran some synthetic Rotella for a while when the local wally world was selling it cheaper than the dino stuff. The mistake ended and I went back to old fashioned dino oil.
I've had UOA's done by Blackstone on all of them. They all work more than fine for my 540,000 mile engine.
I've been pretty much the same as Chris above except I've never run the Rotella (think I read something about how quickly it sheared years ago...it was on the internet so it had to be true LOL).
For awhile I was a Valvo Prem Blue dino fan & run the Prem Blue syn in the winter but the last couple of years I've run the NAPA brand 15w-40 (Ashland Oil same as Valvoline) dino & catch the 4 gallons of Prem Blue syn on sale for $20 for the wintertime.
I run the dino for 5k oil change & the syn for 7k to 7500 oil change
I used to use the Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40 syn blend, but with hard winter starts, I switched to Rotella T6 5w-40 full synthetic. It starts so much better now!
The only other oil I might consider running is Mobil 1 "Turbo Diesel Truck" in 5w-40. Its what I run in my '04 Jetta TDI, this year was known for having soft camshafts that wear out quickly. With 251k on it and still going strong, I'm a believer that the oil has had a large affect to get it to this point!
