i've got a local place to me called Square Deal Batteries and they sell refurbished batts, as well as (apparently) new factory blemish batteries for a discount. they sell refurbs with different warranties as cheap as 25 bux plus tax and core (6 month warranty). 12 month is like $35, 24 month is like $45, then the factory blemish "new" batts with 24 month warranties for idk how much. i just got a 6 month refurb today for 28 out the door for my scion xB. works great. i got 2 factory blemish new ones from them for my 2004 6.0L f350 for i think 50 each. so far no issues. they have a 2 year warranty though if they do.
That's what I like about my local Interstate Battery. They have a pallet in the middle of their store with "scratched and scuffed" batteries at a discount. When I first started going there I laughed at the idea of a "scuffed" battery but it keeps bringing me into the store so maybe they know more than I do...
I want my truck to be dependable and start each and every time I need it to. I have had batteries fail 4 times in 15 years and 235000 miles. A PSD is nearly impossible to jump with just one other vehicle. My 600CCA jump box is almost useless. Maybe I should have a second one or spend the $400 for a commercially rated one. At any rate, being stuck anywhere with a failed battery is a problem with the high cranking power needed. One of the 4 times was with other than Motorcraft and those batteries only lasted 2.5 years, my penalty from deviating from what I know works best. Maybe if the PSD was not so difficult to start when the batteries go down it would be worth saving a couple of bucks on batteries but it is hard enough and embarrassing enough to get one jump, none the less two at the same time. And then when boondocking with the camper on board? Good batteries are better than good insurance.

maybe check around for a place like that in your area? as long as you have warranty on whatever you go with that gives you peace of mind.
the $28 dollar battery i got today for my daily driver scion will most likely last me at least 2-3 years. that IMO cannot be beat for under $30 bux! for the most part i've had good luck with this place. they've been around a long time and always busy, so if their batts weren't lasting, they wouldn't have the customers that i see at their shop everyday i don't think.
Yeah my dad goes to the local junkyards since we don't have a place like that in the area. For years he has been getting batteries like this for 10-20 dollars. As he puts it, batteries are way too expensive these days. The local junkyard he goes to usually has a 6 month return warranty. It dies, return it for another one. The last battery he was buying for his Ranger, was $25 which he thought was getting expensive for a junkyard battery.
