Anyone fixed a sloppy steering column? Mine is very loose around where it articulates for the tilt, I imagine there's some bolts or bushings wore out. 1988 f250 cruise/tilt/standard
Somebody was going to try and have a machine shop enlarge the holes and machine a bushing to go in the hole to fit the pins, but I never heard any more on it. It is a common column for cars and trucks.
Should have ask first is it tilt? If so this applies if not then it is probably just bearings and those are cheap.
yes, he said it was a tilt column.
there are a few different issues that cause slop in a tilt column, but the most prevalent is cause by people using the steering wheel as a grab handle to pull themselves into the truck, which causes the 3 bolts that hold the tilt assembly to the column to stretch or loosen.

So these three bolts face towards the wheel correct? If so I pulled the collar below the key and tightened those with no luck, they were loose but it's loose right where it pivits for the tilt. I don't feel like the tilt mechanism is wore because it works good and moving it feels tight
I've messed with them before if it's the pins I'm sure it'd be fairly simple to do if you were close I'd do it for you if I wasn't about to leave you could get it with a drill press if need be
