I just got a new set of Riffraff intercooler and plenum boots, also sprung for the plenum inserts and clamps. That and the passenger fuel line are the only things going on at this time. I have the spider in the boots, which I thought was going to be the main battle... The spider doesn't seem to want to go downward far enough, it feels like the spider is contacting the inserts. I've tapped it fairly firmly with a rubber mallet, but it still needs to move downward a good 1/4" Do I need to take this apart and grind down the spider to compensate for the extra thickness of the plenum inserts? I gotta get this together shortly for a trip so any help is appreciated.
I recently installed all new boots from Riffraff and the plenum inserts that they make. I didn't have to do any grinding to get the spider hooked back up to the turbo. I would loosen all of the clamps on the boots that connect the spider to the plenums. Then press down on the spider as you clamp it to the turbo. The clamp that connects the spider to the turbo should line itself up as you put some pressure on it.
Good God, DON'T grind on your Spider! You will send yourself down a dark road of despair you will not return from! It will go on there, make sure your not catching the lip of one of the boots on the plenums or visa, versa and use some manly muscle. and leave your clamps loose until you're all the way down.

Are you saying the inserts are still sticking out of the plenums?
If so, they need to be driven into the plenums completely. IIRC they have a lip on the top that you drive them down to.

I'm 99% sure that when I seated the inserts that I tapped them in all the way. I'm about to pull the spider back off and verify because I can't figure out any other reason. Before I first posted I tried everything that has since been suggested here. I'm 230# and I've put most of my weight on it, put weight on it while tapping with rubber mallet... This is all with all clamps loose. Also tried cinching it down with the turbo clamp.
As I rock it back and forth a bit it sure sounds like it is contacting the inserts, so i'm going to pull the boots off and dry fit without them to see what is tight.
If there are any other ideas I'm anxious to hear them.
Depending on how your housing is clocked it can affect it. Also several people have complained about ATS ported housing fitment.
ATS has been on a few years, I kinda remember it being tough to fit on....
I ended up grinding a bit off of the spider to get it to where it would even fit without the boots on. Tried it again with the Riffraff boots and they are so stiff I couldn't get it to line up, even with some weight, tapping, and tightening the clamp. So I cleaned up the old boots really well and they were flexible enough to let everything align. At least now I have good clamps on those things so it shouldn't leak. Maybe in the future I'll get a billeted wheel and go back to my stock housing and I'll put those riffraff boots on. It just seemed like the housing was to low, if it was raised a bit it would have lined up great.
I'm about to do this tomorrow and I have the ats housing as well. Also going to change my poppet oring on the FPR cuz Im at 56 even with frx gold spring. Hope it works out, I remember putting the housing on I had to loosen all of the boots but the ic boots to get to line up good to the spider.
Bigb56 posted a valuable tip... just want to make sure that it doesn't get overlooked. Pre set one plenum boot on the spider, and the other plenum boot on the opposite plenum. Do not put both plenum boots on the spider, or both plenum boots on the plenum at once. Staggering works better.
What Bob and Y2k mention is usually the trick, I have the inserts but I still have the stock boots. With the 38R no issues lining up, I can't speak for the ATS housing.
Stock plenums with RDP plenum inserts, stiff RDP boots (longer than stock), and stock spider. Wrestle-mania, but achievable for my setup with absolutely no grinding anywhere.
You can also try heating up your boots in boiling water to soften them a bit immediately before install.
I've about had it, been at it for an hour trying to fit the spider to the ATS housing. It's driving me nuts. ****!! Also my fuel pressure is still too low like barely 56 with the gold spring and a new poppet. If air gets in fuel system will have a knock or idle kinda rough untik air gets out? Sorry off topic, I'm gonna keep wrestling these basterdz. The ATS joshing isn't powder coated and it drives me nuts, the purple paint just flakes off, what a piece.

Reason: Im dumb
Wrestle mania is an understatement, I remember having fitment issues at the plenum before the ATS housing when I found out they were bent and losing boost.
