I removed the front axle with all brakes, springs and linkages, as well as the steering column with box and wheel, and have been trying to figure out a fair price to list list them locally (since shipping is out of the question). Anyone have any knowledge what they are worth? I don't have any pictures of them, but are in original condition with surface rust.
Also debating on removing the rear axle and replacing it with a 9" I got with the truck. Just trying to decide if getting it to work with the existing setup and replacing the axle shafts to have the same lug pattern as the front would be worth it.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Used parts are only worth what the buyer will pay. With that said, you have not said what vehicle these parts are from. If they are 48-56 parts, keep in mind that there are thousands of axle/suspension changes on these trucks, unless they are in pristine condition with several new parts, the value is minimal.
As Joe said, no such thing as a "fair market price" when there is no market. HAMB guys would use the spindles, backing plates, and steering box...but most truck guys are in your same position, replacing the antiquated parts for something more drivable on today's roads. The best you could hope for is to advertise and see if anyone is interested.
Here's a good "for instance" story...local guy has a compete 56 F100 chassis, minus motor and trans, for sale on CL. Weeks go by, price goes down. Now he has it advertised as "free" just come get it, the market has spoken for this locale.
I buy steering boxes and I dont pay that much but I only need the box and not the column. A steering gear box fits in a medium flat rate box and ships for $13.00
Ok, thanks guys. Kevin, I will see what I can do to get the column separated from the box. I couldn't do it while on the truck so I took the whole thing out in one piece.
