Guys! Guys? Guys! Steering boxes

Fellas, I have been buying 53-56 steering boxes and everone I get from guys on this site have been ruined. The column MUST be removed and THEN cut the shaft off. The last 2 columns have been cut off too low and that makes the cast iron box useless. I will no longer purchase boxes without a pic AFTER the shaft has been cut.

Just a thought from a non-participant, it would seem that a picture from you showing the preferred shaft length might be a welcome guide.

I like what you're doing and hope that every usable part gets a second life.

Good idea, first pic is showing me pointing to the box where the colmun overlaps. As compared to the other box you can see the difference

second pic is the cut off box that is useless

last pic what I will call a "good" box uncut, the column clamp must be removed and the column removed to access this, only then do you cut the steering shaft off leaving the box unhurt.
