Put the performance tune back on it and down to San Antonio with just the truck. Gave it hell the whole way and all seems good. I did get pulled over on the way home though...too many lights on the front...got a warning
Left Atlanta around 9 and pushed through to Roanoke. Just pulled into Camping world parking lot to get some sleep. Now that I think about, I should have put a trip wire on the hood so Apoc couldn't come and sabotage the engine again.
My Excursion is 13 years old and 140k miles. After reading your fun time on the roadside I inspected my intercooler boots they are stock and black. I think they started blue. I am ordering the complete boot kit and T bolt boot clamps from RIFFRAFF FORD DIESEL PERFORMANCE PARTS as recommended by ACF6.
Now that was sneaky! Well done-even though I'm one of those oil burners now. I do miss the quiet of the V10 on startup. I like the fact that the 6L rarely needs to even downshift out here where the V 10 did jump around. All said and done-I knew all the eccentricities of the V 10. I look under the hood on this one and think "Holy crap!"
I'm still trying to figure out which banging noise is normal
Heck man-didn't know you were pulling Wal-Mart behind you. That'll blow hoses off anything!
HAHAHA. It felt like it on some of those hills. I damn near had a stroke when I realized the elevation and grade on 77 in Virginia...I am still amazed I didn't have any issue going over that thing... 7 miles 7% grade. I was waiting the entire climb for the "pop" sound to happen but it never did, I guess the boot issue has been fixed...for now.

Glad to hear it man. Better to do it now when nothing is wrong. I suggest still keeping the old boots just in case you need a quick fix before you can get the replacement parts shipped.

Hey now, you are pulling a trailer that is a full 6' longer than mine, but you are also dealing with a GVWR that is 1300lbs lighter than mine. Lighter truck, lighter trailer....this is starting to look the military's special female PST requirements.

Really though, it was nice to chill out in Salem for the day. Apoc showed us an awesome park where the kids could work off some built up energy and despite the kidney stones; he still hung out with us for several hours.
We are now home and everyone else is passed out. The truck and trailer will get a nice bath this week as well as a spy day in the form of routine maintenance. New shocks will be on the way soon and I hope the Denny's Skillet was enough of a bribe to get Apoc to help me put them on. The next trip with the trailer will be to Myrtle Beach for a work event for bike rally. Hopefully we worked out all the bugs on this one.
