My E350 with the 7.3psd is in the shop, where they are trying to track down a minor vibration that comes on over 70mph. I just got an e-mail from the shop telling me the E4OD that is in the van is for gas engines only.... From what I read on other posts, I was under the impression that the gas version would not bolt up to the 7.3 diesel. Is that true or no?? Any possibility that this could be the cause of the vibration? I'm also having the driveshafts checked for balance. This van was converted to 4x4 using axles and t-case from an 07 F350, so I thought I would have those checked just in case. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The Gas E4OD is NOT interchangeable with the Diesel Version....they are different along with the TC's....the Diesel has 6 bolts where the Gas only has 4 ... I doubt the Vibration is coming from the trans also...my bet is on the Driveshafts or those Monster Tires you have on it....PM Mark K ...he is the expert on all Fords transmissions...
I don't think it is coming from the tires. I had the same issue with the stock wheels and smaller tires that I took off of it. I'm hoping its just a driveshaft balance issue. The transmission issue has me perplexed. The diesel shop that has it is saying that I've got a E4OD built for a gas engine hooked to my 7.3. I was told that it might be possible to partially bolt it up that way, but not all the bolts would align? Waiting to hear more from the shop on Monday.
The Diesel shop does not know what they are talking about ....I would take it to somebody else....they are confused ...I also have the E40D and a 7.3 PSD like you ... and like I said they are different...did you not read my post ?
PM Mark K. he will set you straight ....

there a lot of "diesel shops" out there that don't know much. I had a driveline vibration in my 2003 E350 and thought it might be toque convertor lockup issue coming in on coast and decel around 105km/65mph and up. was my rearend. yoke was loose enough to cause a vib but not caus ethe seal to leak. stil running it that way 3yrs later and still has same vib , no worse and no better, but I dont' run over 60mph much anymore so . have no vibration under load, not even hauling 10,000lbs behind me. only coast and decal. get it checked when you driveshaft is out for checking.
Yeah, I will have to see what they say later today, when I call them. This is a commercial diesel shop. They service everything from big rigs to RV's. They are certified by pretty much every diesel engine manufacturer on the planet. It's not like some shops I have seen, where it's one guy who calls himself an expert. I will find out more today. Nice rig by the way, now all you need is 4wd!
Well, I just talked to the shop again, and no luck with the vibration. U joints are fine, drive angles are fine, drive shafts are fine. So, I called off the search for now. Regarding the trans... well, stamped on the case of the E4OD are words to the effect of "FOR GASOLINE ENGINES ONLY", but it is bolted to my 7.3 PSD with no issues, so I am going to leave well enough alone for now. If it goes up in smoke, well I guess I will cross that bridge when I get to it. Thanks for everyone's input!

that is a strange one! that case will not bolt up to any gas engine..........
good luck tracking down that vib. are you sure some glue on wheel weights haven't fallen off those wheels? they are pretty big........
the truck on the trailer is the replacement for Barney, any kind of snow and its useless in the winter and barney just rolled 490,000 yesterday and today the oil cooler started leaking , uh oh. pulled 21.3 miles per imperial gallon on its last fillup so its still pretty healthy 7.3 powerstroke. I'll miss him when he's gone

Those words were not on the case when it left the factory. Someone added that later, and it is obviously wrong.
