Floppy Sun Visors???

Howdy Folks
Can anyone tell me how to repair the broken ends on the overhead flip up/down sun visor's please??
I bought the replacement ends that clip into the center piece, but I'm not sure how to put them into the end of the visor itself?
Do you have to drill out the old rod or what??
It's probably easy but I'm not sure if I'm lookin at it right
And I don't want to screw it up! HAHAHAAA

Thanks
Ray

Look at the lower parts catalog picture:

Basic part number 04114 is a plastic extension rod, 04115 is a rubber tip. The tip fits on the end of the rod, then into the 04132 clip.

These parts are available NOS, from Carpenter and etc. repro parts sellers.

Carefully pull the old piece out, compare the broken one to the new one, if the new one is just a bit longer (meaning you have a small amount broke off) just install the new one and there you go.

If you have a lot broke off, you might be able to carefully remove the other metal end, and use a piece of small round stock to go all the way thru and push out the broken piece. Install new and there you go.

I have also run a small drywall screw into the broken stub so that I could grip with vice grips and pull the old piece out.

If you just want to tighten up the visors because they flop while you are driving, you can pull the visors off the shafts, then put some kind of silicone (eg. form-a-gasket or windshield sealer) in the hole in the visor. Stick a small screwdriver in there and spread it a little - you don't want to block the hole, just put a rubbery coating around the inside of it. Let that dry, then put the visor shafts back in. Depending on how much you use your visors, that can work for a very long time and be re-done indefinitely.

Mine are broken off about 3/4" (three quarters of an inch) down inside the visor.
Is that rod inside the visor made of plastic or metal?
Does it run all the way through the visor?

I thought it was actually the same rod that is on the other end, at the pivot/swivel point...??

Am I mistaken thinking that?

Thanks a lot guys...

Look at ND's diagram. There is short metal rod at the swivel end, and it is plastic on the clip in side. I would try the drywall screw trick to get the left over piece out.

Awesome. Glad it worked for you. That's what makes this forum so great.

I'm going to try the silicon trick later.
