wrench idicator light

First off, first post for the new truck ( '15 F150 lariat crew 5.0). Love the truck, sold 06' F350 lariat crew 6.0 and miss it but this truck is great. Now back to the question:

right before accelerating to get on highway wrench indicator light came on and noted see manual.

On high way was light on power and when I came to a stop the tranny did not want to down shift, it stayed in 3rd gear until I stepped on the gas to accelerate then there was a "thud" and it shifted into 1st.

At the shop now but is this just a tranny sensor?

Good morning Matty, and welcome to FTE!

Interesting, did they mention which sensor it was?

when the truck was brought into the service area they said the light was off and there was no code stored in the computer...

I took the truck home and is driving just fine now with no issues...

That sounds about right for an intermittent electrical issue. Surprising they couldn't see a code though, those are typically stored for at least a few drive cycles.

Wrench Light is slightly different than a CEL. It's surprising and also not surprising there wasn't a stored code.

Tough to say what caused the engine (light on power) or the trans (stuck in 3rd) to go into a "limp" mode.

From my experience on 6.0 Powerstrokes, it could be anything from under/overboost, stuck shift solenoid or a malfunctioning trans temp sensor.

Again, bummer there wasn't a code otherwise it will be grasping at straws as to the cause.
