My father in law looked at a new 2016 f150 xl 2x4 2.7 sport. His quote for the truck was just under 29k before taxes. They allowed him xplan and 4500 in rebates. And he gets another 500 if he uses ford credit. I think they are cheating him. I sent him the current rebate offers shown in fords website for my area. I attached a picture of the offers. Their response was ford credit dictates what rebates they allow. Is this a line of bull? I figured he should be allowed to get this truck for just over 24k if they give the best deal possible. Am I reading things all wrong?
Also, there is another truck about identical with a 3.73 gear. Mpg ratings show the same. What do you all recommend.
X-plan plus all rebates is going to be a pretty good deal no matter where you go. You posted a window sticker of an XL with discounts for an XLT. Rebates/incentives are different for each trim level and XLT usually has by far the biggest rebates. For instance, incentives on a king ranch in my area right now are 2K, whereas on an XLT they're close to 10K. XLs have their own set of incentives and 5K sounds about right.
As for mpg, light trucks are rated for each cab/engine configuration and then averaged for the gear sets available, so all other things equal, window stickers wont show different ratings with different gears alone.
I realize it says xlt, it also says super crew. But that's the offer that comes up when you click on xl super cab. What I can't find, is the 4500 in rebates they are offering.
I've never been able to find accurate rebates on the ford site. I assume that because the rebates vary so much based on region, trim level, cab and even options, they don't bother putting them online and you're best asking dealers. I've been quoted the same $2,500 in incentives from the 5+ dealers I've been to shopping for my Lariat, but I've never seen that figure online. Maybe someone else knows a way to find them online.
Rebates and incentives are all over the map, and vary by dealer, region, state, model of the truck, and phase of the moon. Tough to make comparisons when there are so many variables.
First of all, there is no way to properly claim rebates without the customer knowing. So it's possible they missed something he is eligible for, there is no reason not to offer them for the customer. Ford requires customers initial and sign for the rebates on a Ford sheet, and it likely shows up on the buyers order as well (that part might be state dependent).
First thing, the one you posted includes a "smart tag" rebate. That's not for all trucks. Ford gave each dealer x number to put on the units they wanted to move. Once they are on the truck, you can't swap em around. So that's $1000 that may or may not be available on a specific unit.
Several of the discounts listed in the ad are shown on the window sticker. So they are of value to a leasing customer, but for a purchase customer they are just ways often used to fluff the perceived discount. So there is not a legit 10K + in rebates, however, from "High MSRP" there is over $10k in savings, and both dealerships are pretty much showing it.
Thanks for asking, but your immediate thought that they were trying to rip your father in law off is why the deceptive advertising works and becomes more prevalent. Rather than trust the straightforward honest dealership, you assumed they were ripping you off $5k so give preference to the sleazy method of advertising.
Thanks for everyone's responses. He has chosen to wait a year until their fusion is paid off. He went to look at a used truck, only to find out it had been in a major accident and it was from Canada. The dealer was upfront and honest about that, probably only because they know it will show up on a car fax. That is how he got involved in looking at new trucks. He was very impressed by the little 2.7(which I had told him was a stout little motor), and has decided he wants a new truck a little later, rather than a used one now. He has a 94 lightning with 80k, a 90 f150 5.0 5speed 4x4, and an 07 ranger super cab with 217k that he drives back and forth to work 90 miles a day that he was going to trade in. So he is not hurting for another truck immediately.
Order banks opened for '17 trucks today. He can get good rebates about this time next year on one. New is a far better value than late model these days. I think in a year or two we might see the used market soften, but trucks may stay higher as they don't lease as much as the sedans and SUVs do.

Ain't that the truth...
Coworker of mine paid $35K for a used '13 Lariat with 20,000 miles a few months ago. Which was $1,500 more than I paid for my similarly configured XLT brand-new last year. Still blows my mind what people are willing to pay for used trucks, but I enjoy that come trade-in time.

You bet! Looking at the value of my 2011 truck with 65K on the clock, it could still fetch 22-23K at a used car lot. I paid a hair over $29K out the door.
I totally agree with you all. I never had a new vehicle up until about 4 years ago. I always bought vehicles a couple years old with @20k miles. It doesn't make sense anymore. Especially when ford credit has a 0% interest deal going on.
I agree, I bought a 2012 XLT 4x4 Screw V8 at $10,500 off MSRP, down to $29k instead of $40k. Four years later, I traded it in for $23k, losing only $7k.
Never buy a used Ford F150 especially with the generous incentives.
