I didn't put much stock in his thoughts either. I suspect that 460 hp is about right, but don't think the torque will be below the current Ram.

I saw someone mention July 11 for the specs. Anyone know if that's true? I hope they give us the turning radius as well. That will help me decide short or long bed.

The 2017 SD link, on the Ford site, off the future vehicles page, is down right this minute... MAYBE they're updating the page..! lol

..hmm nope, still there when you go through the commercial section..oh well.

You'd think the turning radius or circle would be on that page, but it never is. I don't know where Ford "officially" puts that information. With the wheelbase and truck length increasing, it may have gotten worse, but I'm still hoping that that number will beat the Ram as well - the Ram turns significantly tighter than the Ford in 2016.

With the new frame, I assume that other components in the front end were redesigned as well. Surely they can do better than 56.6 feet can't they??? 50' would be nice for the LWB. I've heard claims that the u-joints cannot handle turning tighter, but the F450 disproves that theory.

I'm going with 460/950 for my guess

The wheelbase just got longer. I doubt the turning circle became shorter. Axle joints do have limits, but larger yokes can help.

As for output, right now our engine already outperforms the Cummins. I think only a minimal update is necessary.

Minor updates aren't going to do it. Doesn't Ram currently hold the torque # and the highest towing capacity between 350 an 3500?

I'm hoping Ford really moves the bar this time. The new Ram's are coming out in '18. I doubt they aren't going to be standing put with minor updates.

Let these two duke it out, it works out in the consumers' favor.

RAM claims the highest torque figure, but real life testing up the Colorado Rockies shows the RAM is slower by far than the Ford and even slower than the much lower rated GM Duramax.

GM hasn't updated the dmax in 5 years. It's well down on torque but continues to test very well in real life.

The F450 out tows them all.

On the new trucks, we're seeing 3" trailer hitches and new axles. That's not because the tow ratings are going to be only slightly better.

Power output to the rear wheels is a lot more than just a torque # from an engine.

The f450 barely out-tows a 3500 on paper, in legal numbers. I live in CA, and I have no interest in towing illegally.

I have been building out 350's and 450's , it's just a matter of how much payload the 450's going to end up with. I'd love to get a truck that can two 20,000 SAFELY, and I can also put the largest slide-in camper for other trips.

the F350 will probably be enough for me, but i can't get past those 19.5" wheels. Guess I could just do a 350 and put 20's on there

Anyway, wish ford would just release the damn numbers already, right?!

With a Dana S110 under the 450, I think this is a 1st for a manufacturer under rating a vehicle. Of course that keeps it a pick-up vs a MDT.

For 2009kr Turning Radius: I have the wide track front end, gives me the same turning angle as the 450.

With the new frame, they must have reworked the front end. I'm still optimistic that the turning circle will be better. I'm leaning towards short bed for my '17 crew cab though. Compared to my '09 F150 SCREW, the short bed is merely 18.5" longer vs 34.5" longer for the long bed. (Long bed crew is over 22' long!)

With a 10" wide aux tank, I can add 40 gallons of fuel capacity and still be below the bed rails - negating the primary advantage of the long bed for me. My truck will primarily be a commute vehicle and a fifth-wheel tow vehicle. If the long bed rides significantly better, I may end up with one. It's hard to imagine that 176" wheelbase vs 160" matters that much - they're both very long.

The 450 has a Dana S130 not a 110. That's a misprint and even more underrated than if it was a 110...

Karl4Cat,
So they put a different axle in the chassis than the F450 pickup?

Thanks,

Bill, not sure on what's in the CC trucks but the pickups run the S130 since 2015.

So is this a marketing ploy or are they really that disorganized?
I have been doing a Google search for some time now, "2017 Ford payload" and usually get nothing. Today I got the following:

https://www.google.com/search?q=2017...YAAGYfM4BaAAAA

2017 Ford F-350, Payload - 3,807 to 7,027 lbs

2017 Ford F-450, Payload - 5,410 lbs

The F-450 number seems like it might be off unless they've leveraged the tow numbers in order to be "best in class" (meaning the tow numbers are way up at the expense of the payload)

The F-350 numbers are definitely higher than the 2016.

Have no idea as to how reliable this info is.

Dang the Payload on the F350 jumped from 3,807 to 7,027lbs? Very impressive if that holds to be true..
