If you go with a tuner, have you found going with a cold air induction system to be of help or could it be a hindrance?

Not necessary unless you are making crazy HP on a 6.0. The paper 6.0 filter is great and many maintain that it is much better than a CAI at keeping dust out and keeping your turbo from an early death.

On the 7.3's, the aftermarket filter intake setups can allow for better control of EGT's when custom tuned. However, a good custom tuner can make sure that's not a problem too, whether you have a stock filter system or an aftermarket one.

That's been the consensus of my buddies w/ 6.0s also.

I've been running a standard 6637 intake setup in Houston for years, and haven't felt the need to swap to a CAI. I'm slightly over stock HP numbers

I cannot attest to stock vs 6637 when tuned as I did several modifications at once, so I don't have any baseline intake vs intake results.

Something else that can help substantially, albeit more expensive, is a 6.0 intercooler swap.

After putting in stage 2 injectors and a hydra it blew a lot of black smoke and triggered the air filter light every day. Put in a S&B which greatly reduced the black smoke and no more idiot light, plus the intake sounds good.

The (diesel eng) stock air filter is already a cold air intake. It has two inlets that protrude through the front grille header to get fresh cooler air.

Most normal temperatures feel cool at a high enough velocity

So if you don't tow--the factory inter cooler is fine??

Still learning diesel stuff--so emissions gases are routed back into the engine to be burnt again...which makes the engine run hotter and sounds like it is the potential source for other nagging problems. What is the EGR Delete? Are there different work arounds for this issue. I live in MT and the cows make so many gas fumes, no one notices diesel...plus there are less people than in than NYC!

Upgrades never hurt, everything helps in its own way, towing or not. Intercooler tends to be overall more beneficial, and for the price you can snag a good unit like CSR for the same price as a CAI. CAI benefits tend to be nerfed by the IC anyway, so my preference would be to upgrade the IC.

Pretty much when it comes to intercoolers, yeah. But which diesel are you asking your questions about?

What is the EGR Delete?
7.3's don't have EGR's, only 6.0L Excursions where the PSD is concerned.

That said, the EGR delete is exactly as it sounds, it deletes the EGR. If you're wanting detailed specifics, might I suggest looking into the tech folder over in the 6.0L forum.
