My 03 w/4.6 has been running rough for a while. I don't drive it very often and I have put off fixing it. Everything leads me to believe that I have an ignition coil issue and I was planning on replacing all of them. I've already replace plugs and wires last year.
I was pulling a pretty heavy trailer yesterday and it really struggled with the load. I pulled up to a red light and it stalled. It tried to fire but sounded like it was hitting on one cylinder and eventually died.
So I got it pulled out of the intersection and had a friend come get the trailer. As a last ditch effort I pulled the plastic intake loose and sprayed some starter fluid. It started right up and was running again, so luckily I got it home.
Whatever is wrong with it, has been there for a while. I think the heavy load was what did it this time.
I didn't know until now that me putting this off (whatever it turns out to be) could ruin the converters. I don't know that is has but I would like to find out before I spend any more time and money on it. Only to find out that I have to have a pretty expensive repair.
So will pulling the code tell me if the converters are good or will it be a cat and mouse game with other issues existing.
Thanks. Yeah I'm a dummy so get that out of the way
Get the codes first or you don't know what's going on.
Putting repairs off never produces better results.
The intersection deal was waiting for you.
Good luck.
