Lightbulb 1968 SuperCrew?

Here is an idea that I have been throwing around for a while. A 1968 Ranger Super Crew. I am planning to use a long wide bed chassis and obviously a crewcab body. If anyone else has tried something similar please tell me how it went.

Do you mean a Crew Cab with an 8' bed?

No, I mean to put a crewcab cab onto a NON-crewcab long bed chassis and cut the 8' box down to fit. Thus rendering the box to be about 5 and 1/2 feet. I cant figure out how to put the image on the post, otherwise I'd just show you.

There is a 63 1/2 ton on e-bay right now that was built that way. The box looks kinda goofy with the wheel openings all the way foreward and whats left of an 8 foot bed hanging out back. I have thought of doing the same thing but cutting down the bed to look right would require taking some out of both ends I think. I have also thought about an extended cab and I think I have that one figured out by shortening a crewcab. I'll probably never get around to either one anytime soon.

I was thinking obout using a 73-79 crewcab or as you said maybe an extended cab and re-skinning from the windows down. I know that is alot of work but there just doesn't seem to be an overabundance of extended or crew cab 67-72 trucks, and if you do find one the chances of the owner giving it up is very slim.

I will check out that ebay truck, maybe that guy could give some pointers.

The 73-79 shared a lot of the same dismensions but the rear of the cab slopes more on the later ones. They do all take the same windshield.

I can't belive you guys even harbor the thought of chopping up a 67-72 crewcab ! Their rare as it is but it whould be cool, I guess it whould be acceptable if the cab was already thrashed. Please tear up a 73-79,their a little more abundant. No matter what you choose make sure you keep us all posted it'll be a neat project.

With the leftover truck parts, you can make an extra long bed custom cab.

Well the one I'm eyballing is a junkyard truck that is stripped if it'e front clip, rear doors and most anything else that someone could use. It is at a u-pull lot so it has been torched on a good bit too. The roof, rear cab section and rear floor are about all that's left that is usable. I was thinking of cutting it off at the winshield and somewhere under the front seat and using the roof and floor to section together a supercab. I have been looking and measuring for years to do this and you just can't cram two regular roofs together and make the lines match I don't think. We have an old guy nearby that has built several that way from the 61-66 cabs and the roofline just doesn't quite look right. I also thought of doing the reskin on a 73-79 s/c but the rear roof slope is wrong for a 67-72. I won't attack this until I am pretty sure I can make it look like Henry did it. But I think I will get that cab from the crew before it gets crushed.

Oh my god it's a 1968 Sport trac!!!! I dunno if i'd go through all that work i'd just find a crewcab. But thats coming from someone who has 2 already. Whould be original. I would find another 67-72 crewcab and build some sort of extra cab like the 73-79 super cab on there so you whould have a total of 2 1/2 total windows on one side and and lots of room for junk behind the second seat.

Nice concept!! I like that, even though I like to 'have' stock trucks, I like to see other ideas like this.
So, are you gonna do it?

This crewcab was in the Truck Trader a few years ago. It's a long sucker freight train!

looks to my wallet that if I am going to do it that it will have to be in 1/24 scale, and made of plastic. OH, THEY DON'T MAKE A KIT OF THE 67-72 FORD TRUCKS!!!!! >:E
