haha if thats what u call getting the wifes hammydowns so she can have the new cars. Why do you think I'm workin on the crewcab so I don't get that nickname. I'm just your normal wrench turning construction father of 2.
now heres my thoughts as some of you might know I will be putting my 67' crew 2wd body on a 85' crew 4x4 frame... yes, I will need alot of luck so in the research mode....
Zact that is quite a brave thing to do, good luck, take lots of pics. are you using the '85 drivetrain? If so modified or stock? Just food for thought, the mid '80's are plagued with the emmissions, unless you forgoe the smog setup and get carbed.
I have been trying to convince the wife to let me build the 68 crewcab I have in the backyard (my dads right now)all new stuff like mine and have no car payments but she's not budging. Can you belive she even brought up that we should buy an H2 cuz that whould be 1 little bigger payment if we only have one new car!! I said first don't ever say such a thing in my house such as GM products unless were makin fun and second I could have my own house seperate from you for that much money. Women just don't see far enough in the future or level headed. I do almost have her talked into a 78-79 bronco though. So that could be my next project, but 2 crewcabs sitting in the driveway is cooler.
I have always thought it would be cool to reskin a 78-79 bronco to the 67-72 body style. Or take your 68 crew and make a "suburban" with a reskinned bronco back half .
Will be using the 85' drive train just adding a under over auxilary trans after the transfer case. The 85' has a 12" lift so that also.. then the wheel base is 165 on the 67 and 172 on the 85' so will possibly be hacking the frame... the 85' has the 460 with the c6 so that will make that easier also, I hope. Also want if for the dual gass tank set up on the 85' cutting out the gas doors on the 85' and putting them in the bed of the 67' so should look pretty clean...
Ya I also had pondered the reskinning deal wouldn't be hard with a donor truck and a bronco sitting there. I Would only reskin the rear section and use the cab off the 67-72 with it's interior together for a true fullsize 67-72 bronco. If I went to a newer frame with the crewcab I'd find one with a diesel rather than the 460 next time around.
460, I have a 97 powerstroke for a company truck and while it is a pretty good rig, I sure wouldn't buy one unless I was back in Alaska where they don't dye the untaxed fuel and you can run them on stove oil all winter. My biggest gripe is that it makes no power until the turbo spools up. Leaving a stop I usually just mash it to the floor and at about 20 it starts to pull. When I mash the pedal I want things to happen now not later. That and the noise. I always have to turn the thing off when in a drive up.
I wouldn't want a stock diesel by any means it would have to have a bunch of Banks stuff on there and I like the powerstrokes and all but I would probably choose to go with a Cummings in my frame. I guess you could say I just want to try one of everything or have what I can't. LOL
