Question Trailer light hookups

My running lights are the only things that work when i hook up to my four prong adapter on my 1998 f150. I recently had blinker trouble so i sent my truck to Ford and they changed out the multi function switch. For about 2 weeks after that my lights worked. now i hookup to a different trailer and they dont work...not even on the trailer i normally pull. The different trailer does not have a short because it worked on both GMC trucks we have. I love my Ford but the lights are givin me fits...if anyone can give me some insight that would be great. thanks!

Well, this doesn't surprise me any.

There is a " Standard " of Wiring Trailers.

Then there is wire so it only matches your pull vehicle.

With lights not working on a trailer, this will bring attention to it for it being a possible theft.

I wiring my trailer to Match my truck plug.

I also made up a pigtale to the Plug *Standard*, in case I ever had to pull someone else's trailer.

You could always check the colour coding per the plugs.

I would say your travel trailer and the three different vehicles are not wired right.
Here is some diagrams that will help you:

More than likely the travel trailer and the three different vehicles are wired for a truck like this diagram:

I personally would wire the truck so it worked with everything as standard. If you ever want to borrow a trailer, it would be nice if it was plug and play.

I just installed a 7 point connector to my 97 F150 only to find the parking lights don't work. Everything else seems to be ok. When I tested the brown wire on the truck with a multimeter, nothing happened. My truck tail lights work fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Matt

when i had my problem i found two things one one of the tail lights was the wrong one it was a single post and not a two post. second in the fuse box you need to check the fuse and you also need a relay that does nor come supplied with your truck but you can find where it goes by the fuse layout, it should be for ttrailer running lights etc

If you have a factory towing package, and use the factory trailer wiring, then yes you have a seperate fuse and relay up front.

If you use the brown wire that is going to the license plate lights and the taillights on the truck now, then you should have no problems. I do not understand if your truck lights are working, the brown wire for the truck's taillights should be hot when the headlights are on. Make sure you find a good ground when you are testing the system.
