Having issues installing a boss audio 7 inch flip up touchscreen in my f350. Want it so I have a screen for a back up camera, it was boss so it was dirt cheap, has bluetooth, and also its a touchscreen - Come on why not for less than $100 including the ford specific harness?! got the wiring harness spliced up last night. I used the red butt splices since soldering seemed like a chore and I figure the head unit will only last 2-3 years (again I know its a boss audio unit). Weirdest thing happen when I went to test the radio before sliding it into the dash. My truck would not start but would turn over endlessly it was the weirdest thing. First I cut the parking brake I had spliced into with the ground (to bypass video playback stop feature) but still did the same thing as it would crank just fine no start. Looked at my old harness for the pioneer I had in it and I never hooked up the power antenna on it so I cut that one and the truck started right up (literally less than 1 second) and roared to life so I figure gas had been dumping the whole time while it was cranking since it idled higher than it usually does on a cold start.
Anyone know why my truck would not start when the power antenna is hooked up to the radio properly? Makes no sense to me unless my dad did some backwards wiring on it when he was alive (very real possibility I have been reversing his wiring on the truck since I got it).
Also I think I might have burned up the touchscreen since it will power cycle on for 2 seconds then turn itself off each time but of course its boss audio so it might just be a DOA unit. I will know soon, the replacement is on its way from amazon but I am sure I hooked all other necessary wiring correctly.
I am not sure. Never bothered to chase it down. I clearly thought of the fact it does not have a power antenna last time and that is why I did not splice it on the harness on the pioneer I took out but I was messing with it late last night (around 10pm so brain was not 100%) and clearly was not thinking things through when I went ahead and spliced the power antenna wire from the radio to the manufacturer specific harness. I usually never hook it up but this time I did.
I am just curious why that wire in the factory harness would not allow my truck to start when wired. Not a big deal as clearly every head unit since the one my dad put in the truck when new never had the power antenna wired up and it has worked fine for all these years but just find it really odd.
