There's something going on with the newer fuel line set up and it really bugs me. I bring it up because I just changed my filters last weekend and the purge process took all of 40 minutes. At one point I removed the filter outlet line to see if fuel was flowing, and it was, and it comes out pretty dang fast.
But yeah, after I purged for at least 30 minutes I tried to crank and it took twice as long as normal so I turned it off and kept purging. What the heck? I think next time I'm going to change the frame filter, purge, run, change top filter, purge run.
When I replaced my low pressure fuel pump, I too had a hard time purging the air. I must have done the key on key of 50 times. Finaly it started and ran a little rough so I shut it off right away and was praying it wasn't the high pressure pump. Did one more key on key off and it started and ran smooth. I was getting worried but all is well.
I only changed the fuel filters 3x in my 2011 and both times it wasn't that bad. Cycled the key 10 times like the book says and it fired right up the first time. You are worrying me about the 2015 now... And I am due to change the fuel filters on that soon because I don't want to do it in the middle of my summer drive.
Mine did exactly the same thing just over the top of the North Cascade Pass in Washington. It was ten thousand miles since I had changed the fuel filters but it still had to be my human error . Scary because on the way up the pass there would've been no place to pull over and on the way down I would've had no power steering or truck brakes.. I was pulling a 31 foot fifth wheel at the time. Lots of smoke and liquid on the engine and ground. I changed fuel filters again recently and I made very very sure that the clip was secured on the fuel line.
And now that I've thought about it, I usually go back and tug on that line, I don't think it has enough of a positive lock to it so that when you snap it together you get a clear click letting you know it's done. Seems pretty weak, not one of those "you'll know when you do it" things. Definitely a good tip Scott.
Changed ours last month before going to Florida. No problems. Purged many times until I could hear just a solid fuel flow.upper filter was fun. But got clip securely fastened by pushing with small tool on the clip until it snapped.
