2002 F350 Crew Cab Dually 7.3 long bed. Was bought by my employer as a box delete, made into a stakebed with lift gate. registered to haul 15K Lbs. bought in 2003, bought stock bed, made back into "regular truck" Trying to find info to put camper on. Salesman told me to go by axle ratings (door says 11K gvwr). Was taught that axle ratings always exceed gvwr and dont go by axle ratings for payload. Very confused just how much camper i can put on this truck. Only looking at lance 850 dry 2500 Lbs. Salesman said no problem. Weight calculator on web sit said 528Lbs over loaded with passengers, stuff etc. How did employer get it rated for 15k if door says 11k? any help is greatly appreciated as i have been spending a lot of time doing research so as not to make a deadly costly mistake.
thanks for the reply dual
ft axle 4850
rear axle 8250
GVWR 11000 door sticker
ft tires 3042
rear tires 2778 ea X 4 Dually
also i did go to ford fleet site and printed up all info on the truck and it seems to tell me that the salesman should not be listened to at the RV lot. Everything i have been reading says GVWR- curb weight= payload including passengers full tank supplies etc.
So those are your legal numbers, when you go over those numbers fines can be imposed. If you needed to get weighed at a DOT scale they most likely will go by axle weights and or tire capacities. I have been pulled over and weighed by a local officer and all he was interested in was my gross weight. My brother got pulled over and was over his GVWR but not axle rating but still got fined. Here in PA its $1 per pound overweight, he had a fine of $300. I have been pulled over twice some have never got pulled over. Most times if you don't look over loaded and are driving sensible, they won't bother you. I found out months later from a friend that the reason I was pulled over, I was pulling my work trailer, they were looking for contractors that have trailers over 10,000lb rating and no CDL. Fortunately my trailer had a GVWR of 7000, So he let me go. Don't forget RVs are exempt but the driving sensible rule still applies. Not trying to scare you but just be informed.
