Hi, I got a Eaton axel in my 87 f800. The only tags on the center section say; a43200r1500, avc87002134, 456. So what axel ratio do I have, 456? Thanks
I found some info--well, actually Eaton/Spicer PDFs with full manuals on the axles-- with an "Eaton Axle Identification" search, but I can't match it up to the numbers you posted.
Is this a single speed axle?
There should be a warranty plate on your driver side door near the latch. Post the VIN and all other codes. Those codes will tell the axle model and ratio.
Looking at the Eaton site, it does appear you have a 4.56 ratio, and that this would be a single speed axle as two speeds show both ratios.
It's a single speed axel and the doors are off a 96 and the cab I'd is different from what I've got. I'm starting to think she's a hodgepodge of truck parts. I'd like to put a taller gear in her do you know what model number it is?
I did a Google search and I don't have much experience with this large truck stuff so I like to ask for other opinions. Thanks for your time
Like I said, I can't make anything out of the numbers you posted when I look at the Eaton site. Search "Eaton Axle Identification" and you'll find the same sites. There are also numbers stamped on the housing.
As for taller gears, I think there are axles down in the mid 3s for diesel trucks with low profile tires. Think Freightliner MT45 or similar. I would guess that might be an expensive swap.
With a 4.56 and the tires you have it should have a decent top speed...don't it? If those are 11 x 22.5Rs, you should be at about 2400 rpm at 65 mph. Maybe a bit high for some oil burners I guess. That's if you don't have overdrive....
Thanks for the help but at about 2800 rpm she runs down the highway at about 60. I'm trying to run at 75 at that rpm. I have thought about an overdrive but I don't know where to start. I was told she has Allison tranny and I don't know if it's divorced set up or what. Any input helps. I have the service manual that showed up yesterday. So what do I need to know about big overdrives? I have a waren unit in my ****** and a Mitchell in my model a.
I watched a video and it's calculated by 2 revs of the wheel. I don't understand why 2 revs but the math matches the tag. So I'm incredibly curious as to what the converter has to do with top speed? I'm now trying to verify the tac is correct, is this a Hall effects type pick up or what and where? Thank you all for your time and if I come across as arguing it's not my intent I'm simply trying to understand the systems and components
