The 653 has a lockup. That's the only way to get 1:1 in those transmissions. for your 545 it's 1.72 or 1.96, not a big difference considering the other numbers here.

I would suggest you contact Powerforce or other supplier and see what they say.

There are a few trucks for sale with your set up and I'm not apposed to ripping everything out for a swap.

I'm not apposed to a 7.3 out of a 2wd f350.

I subscribe to a thought process that states mind over matter if you don't mind it don't matter

Right, the 1.82 your quoted earlier is an option for the 653 according to that link. But it also locks up, which is 1:1.

So I'm going to do some research on having a converter made as well. I'm sure someone can make me want I want. I realize it's not an off the shelf unit but I'm sure I can get someone to manufacture one

Some discussion here:

Allison AT 545 Auto???

They reference Suncoast as a source for a custom converter. Nothing on their site about Allisons other than those in GM pickups.

GM Converters

You mentioned maybe a repower with a 7.3? All things considered, depending on how much your truck weighs, you might be happier with a repower, an OD trans with lockup, and probably less fuel and maintenance costs. Serving suggestion.

Why wouldn't you just get that 653, put it in, and adjust your gears if needed?

If you're going to do a bunch of swapping, put a 6 speed or a 10 speed manual transmission. I wouldn't even mess with an automatic transmission. If you want an engine use either a 5.9 or 8.3 cummins. Something intended for a medium duty truck.

I will NOT put a standard transmission in my truck. That is way to much work to operate. I've found a 8.9 in a truck with a 653, and that's the way I may go after talking to people who really know what they are talking about. I will be happier with a engine I can hot rod and a 7.3 is a good option. I got an old ambulance with engine and transmission 7.3 with OD for 1200.00. It's got 350k on it but I can rebuild her and jam that in my big truck and have at it. I'm not set on my plan of attack but I will be speaking to people this weekend that I have full confidence in their knowledge in regards to diesel ages and automatic transmissions I will never put a manual transmission in the truck for towing ever is the most uncomfortable thing to make a left-hand turns in attack but I will be speaking to people this weekend that I have full confidence in their knowledge in regards to diesel ages and automatic transmissions I will never put a manual transmission in the truck for towing ever is the most uncomfortable thing to make a left-hand turns in. I have a class A with no restrictions and the last thing I want to do is jam gears.

That's going to be my first direction of attack, but if that doesn't work it's all going out and I'm starting over.

5.9 and 8.3 are both good engines (I have both of them) but I don't understand the intended part, the 7.8 Ford 6 cyl turbo diesel in his truck only came in medium duty Ford trucks.
