It's been a while...how did your repair go? My trans just let go yesterday and I'm reviewing options. I have a great local mechanic, but am considering doing the job myself to save a few bucks.
I gambled and bought a local trans for 700. Seller said it was OK, but after installation, I have the 3-5 flare and the 1-2 second delay into reverse. The guy gave me 500 back towards the rebuild. I am considering installing the D solenoid to buy me some time to save up for a reman or something type of repair. What else can I do besides park it until I have the funds?
Check you local dealer for pricing on the trans and then also give Ed a call. FICMRepair.com - FORD Powerstroke 6.0 FICM Repair, PHP Tuning and Truck Parts
Unless you want some out of the box changes made this should be the better
pricing on the job, Also the warrantee still stands so long as you use the new
oil to air cooler and flush everything else. A new oil to air cooler comes in the
shipping box with a trans full of fluid.
Update. I bought a craigslist trans out of a wrecked truck. It has a few issues but has been 10,000 miles so far and towed my 14K lb camper on several trips. Probably 1000 miles total on 4 or 5 trips plus pulled my boat 6 to 8 times about 45-50 miles each way at 8,000 lbs. Well worth the $400 I paid for it so far, till it craps out and I have to do it again. The only other way I will go is a built unit. Just can't stomach the $6000 hit plus install yet.
