Thanks for the replies. I found my old notes and I am making changes right now. If I go with AFR heads which has better flow rates with smaller port volume than the Edelbrock heads. Down side is they are in 58cc chamber vs 60cc so will have to take that into account to keep my compression between 9.5:1 and 10:1.

I will give him a call also, I don't mind paying to have a custom ground cam long as it will provide me with the same throttle response I have now as well as increasing the efficiency of the engine.

And this is also one of those projects that will be down the road. I just am in the planning stages still making change here and there as needed.

Honestly, the right way to pick a cam is based on timing events. I learned this the hard way. Buddy is just good guy to talk to and can get your cam to be as responsive as you want it to be and then some. You'll enjoy talking to him. I did, he's just a wealth of information.

There wouldn't be anything wrong with getting the compression to run 10:1 as this will make it more efficient. And you can get away with more compression running aluminum heads.

The only other thing I would say is your intake may need more plenum volume, like running a spacer or something like that. I wouldn't change to another intake though.

Just for reference, I posted this in another thread in the '73-'79 forum. This was our '75 F100 302 build.

This was our formula: '75 302 block bored .030 over, then torque plate honed, 306 CI.
Stock crank balanced with rotating assembly.
Stock rods with ARP bolts.
Speed Pro L2482 pistons (would do something different now) about 9.63:1 compression.
Roush180 (Windsor Jr.'s) heads with 1.94/1.60 valves.
Comp cam - XE266HR, 266°/274° adv. 216°/224° at .050 .544/.555 lift. Ground on 110° LSA, installed at 106° intake centerline.
Crane retro fit link bar lifters. (would have used Morel now)
Comp Ultra Pro Magnum Rockers 1.6 ratio.
Edelbrock Performer intake.
Holley 600 cfm vacuum secondary with 1 inch phenolic spacer.
Hedman 1 5/8 headers.
12° - 14° initial timing, 34° total timing on 93 octane.
64 - 65 primary jets, 69 secondary jets.

341HP at 5600 RPM and 357 torque at 3800 RPM.

Since then we've changed up to a QuickFuel 650 cfm vacuum secondary carb. 66 Primary jets, 72 secondary.

Running the Edelbrock performer intake my carb would be low without some form of spacer as theses came with an EGR plate. I planned on installing a phenolic spacer of the same thickness to take up this space which will raise the carb to the proper height for use with the oem aircleaner.
