I have on my book shelf a Dykes Automotive Encyclopedia, dated in the
1920's. It covers the many different types of rings that were being mfg.
back then. It seems strange that in eighty years the manufactures of
a zillion engines chose to stick with the straight end rings found in engines today.
Yes they had angle ended, step ended, gapless and on and on. Those very simple
straight cut rings go into very high mileage operation without to many problems.
My advice sick with what we know works, and save a couple of bucks as well.
