Security...gauges...key code. Replacement question

The key. ...

Okay my truck has a dead dash. Tach did not work when i purchased it, now gauges with fail intermittently at times and that's annoying.
Check and test said the gauges are the issue not signal.
If i remember correctly the security is in the dash and the dash reads the key. I have more than 1 of these and was going to swap parts.

If i pull the cluster to put in other truck is it proper to:
Take the key with the new to install cluster from donor truck and use that key for the code, program to a new blank, cut that blank to fit the tumblers on the recipient truck?
Summary: the key would be cloned to a blank from donor truck to follow gauges and cut for the ignition and doors on new installed truck

That was my thinking but sometimes I'm not spot on

Any help is appreciated

Excursions never had the version of the PATS system that incorporated PATS into the instrument cluster, they all used an external PATS module that communicated directly with the PCM.

Security...gauges...key code. Replacement question

What's the part that fails when the wire for OD on/off button on shifter rubs and shorts out killing fuse and then killing all power to the gauges and not allowing for restart?
That's the one! see

Is it post 03 that has a PATS System?
Or as built data to put into the vehicle specific details: PMC, Gear Ratio, Etc.

The wire that shorts from rubbing on the column:
The wire to the OD off/on tip of the shifter

That shorts and kills power to the cluster and PATS system (as I was told)
So you loose power to radio/gauge/windows and once you shut it down it will not restart w/o change of fuse or power to system
