I just put in headers but it seem like i need some more clearance on the cross member. the collector of my headman headers is touching there. I was thinking about raising my motor and tranny up? whats the best option for me?
Are the headers new and What make & PN are the headers? Or were they purchased used? It's sometimes a box of chocolates with the latter...
Long tubes will typically point directly at the crossmember and require that the exhaust tubing go up and over a short distance.
How about posting a pic and showing us what yer working with.....?
They were bought off craigslist but the part number on them is 89150 which matches the vehicle and engine i have. they are full length headman headers also.
it only needs about .5-1 inch of vertical clearance to make it over the cross-member.
So im kinda in a bind....I was thinking spacers under the trans/engine mounts to get the clearance i need. (i wont be able to get a picture up tonight though)
Now how would I go about doing that I need the collector of the headers to go up about an inch and a slightly to the center of the engine this is for the passenger side and the driver side needs to go up about a half an inch. I'm not real sure why the headers are like that they were made for this engine I just need to fix the problem
I hear your frustration, this is a common problem. Most people here clearance the cross member. You can see pictures in several posts on here if you search.
Is the Trans mount in the correct location? If it is wrong or too low it could cause the engine to tilt down too much which would cause headers to hit.

Do you think it's possible that my trans mount could be so worn out that it's dropping the trans down a little bit which makes the headers hit on the crossmember?
